Opening Day at Saratoga’s summer meet 3v2cp
Saratoga Race Course will open its gates on Thursday for the nation’s most prestigious horse racing meet. This year represents a bit of an anomaly as Saratoga already hosted the four-day Belmont Stakes Festival last month. The track will host the Belmont next year, as well, while Belmont Park undergoes a comprehensive facelift.
One of the biggest questions leading into the meet is whether Thorpedo Anna will take on the boys in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes. Thorpedo Anna, a three-year-old filly, romped on the same track in last month’s Acorn. It is also unclear if National Treasure will return to Saratoga for The Whitney. National Treasure, the winner of the Met Mile at Saratoga, has emerged as one of the nation’s top older horses.
